NIDA Open

The National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA) is Australia’s leading centre for education and training in the performing arts. For over 60 years, we have been recognised for our practical and creative approach to dramatic arts education and training. Since 1990, we’ve offered NIDA Open short courses to the public to give people of all ages and experience the chance to benefit from NIDA’s world-renowned training methods and to explore their own creativity.

Specialists in our field

Designed by experienced program managers, our courses focus on practical skills and collaboration across all performing arts disciplines, providing an engaging and transformative learning experience for students of all ages.

Our teaching artists bring their creative practice and industry experience to our classrooms to deliver contemporary student learning, providing supportive feedback and guidance as you progress through your course.

Flexible options

There are a range of learning options, including classes on weekdays, weekends, evenings, during holidays or for longer intensive periods. There are hundreds of courses offered throughout the year so there will always be a NIDA Open course to suit you.

A supportive community

Whether you’re looking to give your child their first creative experience, or want to develop your own creative skills, we offer a supportive environment where everyone will be challenged and inspired.

I had a lot of fun and learnt a lot while doing the course. I learned more how to connect to a character and how to loosen up and have more fun. The tutor Belinda was great. She made everyone feel comfortable and provided really useful feedback.

NIDA acknowledges the Traditional Owners and Custodians of the lands on which we learn and tell stories, the Bidjigal, Gadigal, Dharawal and Dharug peoples, and we pay our respects to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Elders past and present.
