Writer’s Boot Camp, Grades 3-6

Overview

Embark on an exciting storytelling adventure and discover essential skills to bring your ideas to life. Explore fundamental script writing techniques to develop character, dialogue, narrative structure and dramatic tension in this practical, engaging introductory course. Led by an expert NIDA Open teaching artist, learn how to turn your ideas into storytelling for the stage and develop a premise and scene synopsis.

This course provides a vibrant and inclusive learning environment for young storytellers to unleash their imaginations and develop confidence. No experience required, just a love of the written word and a desire to see those words come to life on stage.

Components

  • Unlocking creativity: Discover where ideas come from and harness your imagination to develop a storytelling point of view.
  • Dramatic story: Explore the role of tension, conflict, character relationships, action in structuring a compelling narrative and find the ‘voice’ of your characters.
  • Creative collaboration: Workshop with others to develop your writing ideas; create a short play synopsis.
