NIDA Online: Producing for Theatre and Live Performance

Overview

Discover what is takes to stage a successful show in theatre and live performance. From budgeting and scheduling to assembling a top-notch production team, NIDA Open’s online course will teach you the essential skills for getting started. This course is designed for online learning and tailored for independent and small to medium-budget productions.  

Under the guidance of NIDA teaching artists and seasoned creators, engage in hands-on activities that explore approaches for securing financing in the arts sector in Australia. Create a marketing strategy and bring your knowledge together in a mock production plan. Our online classes cater to a diverse community and welcome students of all backgrounds and levels of experience. Whether you’re starting out or refining your skills, join us at NIDA Open to embark on your journey with confidence and bring your creative vision to life.

Delivery: Face to face, 4 × 2 hour sessions. 

Pre-course work: 60 minutes reading. 

Self-directed learning: 60 minutes writing/research activity between each session. 

Components

  • Budgeting: Gain a comprehensive grasp of professional budgeting techniques tailored to both small and large-scale production projects. 
  • Project planning: Learn essential steps and understand the timelines necessary for a successful production.
  • Financing: Explore strategies for securing funding, grants, and sponsorships essential for supporting creative endeavours in theatre and live performance.
