Directing Essentials

Overview

This two-day course is for aspiring directors ready to bring their creative vision to life. Under the guidance of an experienced NIDA Open teaching artist, you’ll learn to develop a cohesive concept, prepare for rehearsals, and unify story, design and performance elements. Discover how to enhance your leadership skills, learning to inspire and manage a creative team with effective communication, problem-solving and decision-making techniques. Develop your director’s vision, from casting to creating a comprehensive plan outlining your approach to the production in a supportive and inspiring environment at Australia’s national dramatic arts school. 

Components

  • Discover how to create a director’s concept. 
  • Investigate the elements of a production; discover how to work with the creative and technical teams. 
  • Understand how to conduct auditions and lead the rehearsal process. 

Prerequisites

This course is classified as Beginner. No previous experience is necessary.
